About

Built better. Priced fairly. Here's why we started.

What we noticed about building in New Zealand, and why we chose steel frames and factory-made panels.

(What we noticed)

Most New Zealand homes are built the same way: a timber frame, batts between the studs, and a long run of trades on site. People know the system. But living here, we kept seeing the same problems.

The same problems,

again and again.

01

Houses that stay cold.

BRANZ, New Zealand's building research body, measured 47 new homes and found that more than a third of the outside wall area was timber framing, not insulation.

02

Homes that get damp.

Rot, borer and mould all live on timber, and plenty of walls are full of it.

03

Builds that drag on.

The average new home took 455 days from consent to final inspection (Stats NZ, homes consented in the December 2020 quarter).

04

Prices that move after signing.

In Master Builders' 2023 survey of more than 1,000 building professionals and homeowners, 46% named price escalation as their biggest concern.

(What we did about it)

We went looking for a way of building that answers those problems directly, and found it in a factory in Mexico that makes steel frames and steel-faced insulated panels. There's no timber in the walls. The insulation fills the whole panel, with no studs breaking it up. Every part is made to the approved design, cut to size and numbered, so there are fewer weeks of trades on your property. And because the parts are made to a fixed design, we can fix the construction price when you sign.

What “built better, priced fairly” means to us.

Built better: nothing in the walls to rot, no studs breaking the insulation, and a frame a chartered professional engineer designs for your site's wind and earthquake zone.

Priced fairly: the construction price is fixed when you sign, for a level site. Foundation work beyond that, site works, council fees and any changes you ask for are quoted separately.

Who we work with.

The factory that makes our frames and panels is also a partner in the company. Consent work starts at the first meeting.
